Once Upon A Time In Norway

The story of Øystein Aarseth and Mayhem, leaders of the stormy early years of Norwegian black metal. During the eighties young Norwegians inspired by bands like Venom mixed extreme expressions of metal music with ideas of satanism and nihilism. The milieu became notorious in the early ninetees for setting churches on fire and committing murder. After Varg Vikernes’s murder of Øystein Aarseth in 1993, the focus has shifted to the unique music, and Black Metal is now the main musical export of Norway. Interviews with articulate members of the milieu give great insight to outsiders and lots of anecdotes for true fans of black metal. ONCE UPON A TIME IN NORWAY is produced by Grenzeløs Productions, and is a collaboration of different directors: Martin Ledang, Pål Aasdal, Olav Martinius Ilje Lien & Oddbjørn Hofseth , each contributing in different ways. The DVD comes with a 12-pages booklet, written by Roy Kristensen from the Norwegian webzine Imhotep, displaying his personal view upon the history of Mayhem.

AMEBIX: Risen DVD & Tour 09

Amebix , formed in England in 1978 as "The Band with No Name", were a band that many consider to have started the sub genre crust punk. Their music blended anarcho-punk and heavy metal . Such notable bands as Sepultura , Neurosis , Napalm Death , Deviated Instinct , and Gallhammer have paid homage to the band. The ‘Risen’ DVD will be independently released, therefore they plan to sell a limited amount of copies on-line in keeping with the DIY spirit of the project. If you are interested you can place a ‘pre-order’ here for one of the limited editions. The DVD will include original band interviews and live footage, as well as interviews with Jello Biafra (ex-Dead Kennedys), NEUROSIS, and Max Cavalera (Soulfly, Cavalera Conspiracy, ex-Sepultura). There will be a collection of unseen pictures.

Until the Light Takes Us is a feature length documentary chronicling the history, ideology and aesthetic of Norwegian black metal - a musical subculture infamous as much for a series of murders and church arsons as it is for its unique musical and visual aesthetics. This is the movie that gets inside the minds and hearts of black metal's musicians. The movie is about the extraordinary people and events that make black metal unique, unforgettable, and inevitable. Featuring: Gylve "Fenriz" Nagell, Varg Vikernes, Jan Axel "Hellhammer" Blomberg, Kjetil "Frost" Haraldstad, Ivar Bjornson, Abbath and Demonaz Doom Occulta, Kris "Garm" Rygg, Bjarne Melgaard, Harmony Korine, and more. The film, shot on 35 mm and dv, is directed and produced by Audrey Ewell and Aaron Aites. It is currently being edited in New York.

TOYPUNKS VOLUME 1

It's common for the Japanese to take something existing and classic, only to reinterpret, redesign and recreate to yield what is arguably a better product. However with Toypunks Volume 1 starts off with a strong list of appearances with the likes of the aforementioned Bounty Hunter founder Hikaru Iwanaga, designer Frank Kozik and Hiddy Kinoshita of Secret Base among others. LOVE Story is the story of LA band LOVE & their legendary frontman Arthur Lee. Their tale is one of the great untold rock & roll stories. One of the first mixed race rock bands, the dark vision of their music set them apart from the utopian ideals of the 'Flower Power' generation and the 'Summer of Love' era.
LOVE Story covers their journey from the beginning, to the present day. From their origins at Dorsey High School in South Los Angeles, to their disintegration in 1968, and their continuing relevance to this day.

Heavy Metal In Baghdad

Heavy Metal in Baghdad is a feature film documentary that follows the Iraqi heavy metal band Acrassicauda from the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003 to the present day. Playing heavy metal in a Muslim country has always been a difficult (if not impossible) proposition but after Saddam’s regime was toppled, there was a brief moment for the band in which real freedom seemed possible. That hope was quickly dashed as their country fell into a bloody insurgency. From 2004-2007, Iraq disintegrated around them while Acrassicauda struggled to stay together and stay alive, always refusing to let their heavy metal dreams die. Their story echoes the unspoken hopes of an entire generation of young Iraqis.

The Day The Country Died

The story of the anarcho-punk movement is told by some of the most influential performers, including; Penny Rimbaud (Crass), Colin Jerwood (Conflict), Colin & Kevin (Flux of Pink Indians) Dick Lucas (Subhumans), Zillah Minx (Rubella Ballet), Gary Buckley (Dirt), Steve Lake (Zounds), Mark Wallis (Liberty), Gee Vaucher (Crass), Dave Hyndman (Hit Parade), Rob Millar (Amebix), Rodney Relax (Alternative), Stringy & Snout (Erratics) and Gerard Evans (Flowers in the Dustbin). The interview footage is laced with both audio and visual music performance from the main performers on the scene including Crass, Conflict, Subhumans, Liberty, Toxic Waste, Chumbawamba, Sacrilege & many more.
